Capabilities

Fugro's professional capabilities encompass:

geotechnical engineering,

marine survey,

water resources,

earthquake engineering,

environmental engineering,

construction materials testing (CMT), and

geographic information systems (GIS).

Specialized Equipment and Facilities

In addition to its consulting practice, Fugro owns and operates specialized field equipment including vessels, drill rigs, in situ testing tools, geophysical systems, and land- and satellite-based survey and positioning systems. The firm developed the majority of marine and over-water geotechnical exploration techniques used today. In recognition of that contribution, Fugro received the 1984 Offshore Technology Conference's "Distinguished Achievement Award" and is the only geotechnical firm to ever be so recognized.

Fugro's geotechnical engineering practice includes state-of-the-practice soils and materials testing laboratories, which offer complete geotechnical and materials testing capabilities. Those laboratories are located in Ventura, California and Houston, Texas. Sophisticated on-site laboratories also are frequently used at specific sites.

History

Today's Fugro is the product of the 1986 merger of two long-standing competitors with worldwide operations: Fugro, a European-based company founded in 1962; and McClelland Engineers, a US-based company founded in 1947. The combined group provides the unique experience and technology needed to successfully provide geotechnical, hydrogeologic, environmental, and marine survey services.

Fugro Atlantic was formed when a team of engineers and geologists relocated to Virginia to work with the Craney Island Design Partners providing services for the Craney Island Expansion Program.  Fugro Atlantic is a subdivision of Fugro West, Inc.
